Pamela Bannos
"The Light"
Opening May 19, 2010

Old snapshots manipulated to introduce new meanings would be an apt description of a new series of photographs by Chicagoan Pamela Bannos. Inserting a glowing globe within each scene, it creates an enigmatic presence that interacts with the persons who are present in the original images. According to Bannos, "the added elements create new compositions; they transform castoff photos of ordinary scenes into something extraordinary." She is a senior lecturer at Northwestern University and has exhibited her work both nationally and in Europe. The current series of images, "The Light," is part of the Midwest Photographers Project at the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago.
